Emotion Code for children, through the parent

With children I work using the Emotion Code (Dr Bradley Nelson, Discover Healing) through the parent. That means I talk with you, and I do the muscle testing on myself on your child's behalf, with your consent. For younger children this is the only form of work I offer.

Who decides

Always the parent or legal guardian. You decide whether a session happens, what theme it addresses, how many there are, and whether you discuss it with your child. I do not work on a child without the parent's knowledge and consent, even when a grandparent or another adult in the family asks. With teenagers I also ask whether the child knows about the session and agrees to it. If the parents live apart, the consent of the parent booking the session is enough, though it is better if the other one knows.

What parents usually bring

These are themes, not diagnoses. We name them the way they look at home.

  • difficult emotions after changes in the family: a move, a separation, a new sibling
  • fear of school and of new situations
  • trouble sleeping, resistance to falling asleep alone
  • outbursts of anger and difficulty settling afterwards
  • withdrawal, silence, a sudden change of mood after some event
  • tension before a test, a performance, a competition

How a session goes

We start with a free call in which you describe what is happening and we agree the theme. The session itself lasts around 30 to 45 minutes and can run in two ways. Either we meet on Google Meet and I work while you are there, or I work by proxy at an agreed time while you get on with your day.

An older child or a teenager can be present on Meet if they want to be. I then explain in plain words what I am doing and ask permission at each step. If the child says they have had enough, we finish. Nobody is talked into anything here.

I do not ask a child to describe difficult events and I do not ask for details. A general description from you is enough, for example "she has been crying before nursery for a month" or "he wakes at night since the move". The rest is my work, not yours.

How many sessions make sense is something we decide after the first one. Sometimes one is enough, sometimes we return to the theme a few weeks later, once you can see what has shifted in everyday situations. I do not book a course of sessions for a child in advance.

What you receive

A written summary: which emotions, in the Emotion Code sense, were identified and released, the context they came up in, and what to watch for over the following days. It reaches you by email or WhatsApp, usually the same day. I also add one or two simple exercises to do together with your child, where they fit your theme.

For the first day or two, plan a quieter pace, more water and fewer screens in the evening. Some children are sleepier or more tearful during that time. Many parents describe it as a natural settling after the session.

What this work is not

It is not a diagnosis, and it does not replace a paediatrician, a child psychologist or psychotherapy. I promise no outcomes and I never ask you to stop anything agreed with a specialist. If I hear something in your description that calls for medical advice, I say so straight away.

Prices for all sessions are on the pricing page, remote work is described on the online sessions page, and times are arranged through contact.

Common questions

Does my child need to be present?

No. With younger children I work through the parent as a proxy, so your child can be playing, sleeping or at school. Older children and teenagers are welcome to join on Google Meet if they want to.

From what age?

Age is not a barrier, because with small children and babies the whole session runs through the parent. Consent comes from the parent or legal guardian, who also decides whether and when to talk about it with the child.

Does this replace a child psychologist?

No. This is complementary work. I do not diagnose and I do not provide psychotherapy. If anything you describe suggests a psychologist, psychiatrist or paediatrician is needed, I say so directly and encourage you to go.

Can I have a session for myself as the parent?

Yes, and it is often the most useful first step. Your child lives in the same emotional field as you, and a calmer nervous system in the parent is real support for the child.

All questions

Energy work is a complementary practice and does not replace medical consultation, diagnosis or psychotherapy. If you are in crisis, contact a doctor or your local crisis line.
